When I think about the major influences that helped shape my life, both my mother and grandmother are top of mind. Music was a passion for both of them — one of my favorite memories is my grandmother playing the church organ on Christmas Eve. At the age of 16, my mother was a standout at music camp and was recruited to play ith Phil Spitalny’s famed All Girl Orchestra and the NBC Orchestra. She was one of the very few women who held the position of trombone player during those days. My love of music and appreciation of dedicated musicians started with them. As I remember them on this Mother’s Day, I want to also wish every mother a joyful day and say “thank you” for all you do each and every day.
